~The~Old~Slideshow~

Our original webpage, circa 1997, was kindly hosted for us for several years by Mr Lee Levitt. Now we have our own site with new information, but have had several requests for the photo slideshow that ran on the old site. Therefore, back by popular demand, the Old Slideshow....

Howard Tisdale Walks his Cows
This picture was taken about 1890, at the intersection of Webster Street and May Street. Dairy farming was the main agricultural activity in Needham in the late 19th century, and many households kept at least a few cattle.

The house in the background is the Nutter-Twigg House (built in 1853), which still stands on Webster Street. The kerosene street lamps were installed in Needham in 1883. They were replaced by electric lights about ten years later.
