| This one-room school was originally called the Plains School when it was built in 1855. It was first located on Great Plain Avenue and Manning Street, and was moved in 1872 to a location opposite Green Street. It was renamed in 1886 in honor of School Committee member John Morton Harris. The building was demolished in 1938. A new and larger Harris School was built on Beaufort Avenue, on the site that is now Perry Park. N C Wyeth was a student at the old Harris School. |
